Freedom From Tobacco is a supportive, skills‑based program designed to help you quit tobacco of any kind—cigarettes, vapes, snus, nicotine pouches, and more. Over 7 weeks (8 sessions) you’ll build a personalized quit plan, learn proven strategies to manage cravings and stress, and connect with peers who understand your journey.

7‑Week, 8‑Session Program | Mondays, Sept 8 – Oct 20, 2025 (plus one Wed)
Time: 6:30–8:30 PM • Where: The LOFT LGBTQ+ Community Center (252 Bryant Ave, White Plains, NY 10605)
Who: LGBTQ+ adults 18+ • Cost: $60 per person
Partner: In partnership with the American Lung Association
Questions: Darby@theloftcenter.org

Why this matters

  • About 1 in 5 LGB adults smoke cigarettes vs. 1 in 9 straight adults.

  • Among transgender adults, the percentage of cigarette smokers is 35% higher than among straight adults.

  • Smoking while on estrogen hormone therapy increases the risk of blood clots, which can lead to stroke or heart attack.

  • Contributing factors include internalized homophobia, stigma-related stress, and negative reactions to coming out.

  • Tobacco companies have historically marketed directly to the LGBTQ+ community, which is already medically underserved—raising risks for lung disease and smoking-related complications.

What you’ll get (included in your fee)

  • Eight in-person sessions led by trained facilitators

  • Participant workbook to track progress and build skills

  • Non‑pharmaceutical “quit kits” (tools & resources to support quitting)

  • A supportive, LGBTQ+‑affirming environment
